Hao style Taijiquan was founded by Wu Yu Xiang at the turn of the nineteenth-century. Wu Yu Xiang is said to have achieved the highest level of skill in Taijiquan through his discovery of the "Manual of Taijiquan" written by Wong Zhongyue.
Wu Yu Xiang produced a body of writing containing the essential principles regarding the practice and martial applications of Taijiquan. These have come to be known as the ‘Taijiquan Classics’.
For many years the Wu (Hao) method was kept secret and teaching was restricted to direct descendants of the founders. Though this has limited the dissemination of the Hao style compared to other forms of Taijiquan, it has also preserved the purity of the teachings against being modified for commerciability.
